Why allowing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) over the United States is a bad idea (by Doug De Clue on Friday, March 31, 2006) Many of my fellow pilots will complain of the hazards these UAV's will pose to general aviation or even to commercial aviation - and they are quite correct - but I want to talk about the much more serious hazard they pose for our democratic form of government.

These drones are essentially military in nature and can easily be armed with missiles and guns as they fly over American homes and American cities - much as they already do in places like Iraq and Afghanistan.

Therefore, these UAVs are a real threat to the legal concept of the Posse Comitatus Act: that the military shall not police the civil population. more...
